The Difference Between Deodorant and Antiperspirant

When you browse the personal care market, you’ll see that conventional deodorants are marketed as antiperspirants. But deodorant and antiperspirant are not interchangeable terms as these products have very different functions.

Antiperspirants are designed to temporarily block perspiration from escaping sweat glands. They contain aluminum salts (aluminum chlorohydrate) that absorb into your skin, temporarily halting the production of sweat by blocking your pores to prevent sweat from reaching the skin’s surface. While this may help fight body odor and cut down on underarm wetness, the problem is that it works against the body’s natural process of perspiration.

On the other hand, deodorants do not prevent perspiration, but they can neutralize odor and absorb wetness with targeted ingredients. Sweat itself is virtually odorless, however underarm wetness can foster an environment that allows odor-causing bacteria to grow

Sweat Has Its Benefits

Sometimes this natural bodily function gets a bad rap, but sweating isn’t a bad thing! Our bodies have sweat glands to regulate our body temperature and release toxins, and scientific evidence shows that there are many health benefits to sweating. Sweating has even been used to support wellness in many civilizations and cultures through the ages. It has also been shown to support muscle recovery, skin health, and cardiovascular health.

Switch to Protect Deodorant and Get the Best of Both Worlds

“Protect” Deodorant is a clean, nutrient-rich formula that offers the best of both worlds. It offers three forms of protection against odor: First is supporting a healthy skin pH and microbiome. Second is the inclusion of ingredients that neutralize and absorb odor. And third is the addition of natural powders to absorb underarm wetness.

Let’s break down the powerful and natural ingredients in this formula.

What Is Inside Protect Deodorant?

  • Charcoal powder and arrowroot powder to absorb wetness
Arrowroot powder and charcoal powder work together to absorb excess wetness in the underarm area without blocking pores. Arrowroot powder is a gluten-free starch obtained from the rhizomes of various tropical plants. It has known moisture-absorbing properties and has been in cultivation for over 7,000 years. Charcoal powder is a natural, odorless, highly porous powder made from pine tree wood that has been used medicinally since ancient times and is known to absorb excess moisture.
  • Zinc salts to combat odor
Zinc ricinoleate is the zinc salt of ricinoleic acid, a major fatty acid found in castor seed oil. Zinc ricinoleate is useful in absorbing and neutralizing odor.
  • An amino acid derivative to balance pH
Glycine, the most common amino acid found in dermal structural proteins, is combined with the medium-chain fatty acid caprylic acid to create capryloyl glycine, an amino acid derivative. This ingredient is plant-based, has antibacterial properties, and is considered safe for skin. This amino acid derivative is used to regulate skin’s pH levels in order to minimize odor.
  • Coconut fruit extract fermented with Lactobacillus to help support a healthy skin microbiome
These clinically tested ingredients help maintain skin’s natural bacterial balance. Coconut fruit extract has a high content of skin-conditioning fatty acids and vitamins. We further utilize this ingredient by fermenting it with Lactobacillus to deliver a non-irritating, effective, and multifunctional product that provides moisturizing benefits as well as a microbiome-friendly, natural preservative system.
  • Muscadine grape seed oil, omegas 3, 6, and 9, and vitamin E to protect and soothe
Vitamin E, muscadine grape seed oil, and omega-3 fatty acids nourish, protect, and soothe delicate underarm skin.
  • Natural powders and waxes that apply smooth & dry
Protect Deodorant uses a combination of arrowroot, charcoal, sunflower wax, sunflower oil, and muscadine oil to glide on smooth and clear while giving a nutrient-rich, silky-smooth feel with zero residue.

What Is NOT Inside?

Here are some ingredients you might find in conventional deodorants that you won’t find in “Protect” Deodorant.

  • Protect Deodorant is aluminum-free
There are no aluminum salts in our deodorant that would block your pores and your body’s natural process of perspiration.
  • Protect Deodorant doesn’t use baking soda
This is great if you have sensitive skin. Many natural deodorant sticks rely on baking soda to absorb moisture and neutralize odor, but it has been associated with skin irritation.
  • Protect Deodorant is free of 2,500 questionable ingredients
Like all of our body products, our deodorant is formulated without 2,500 potentially harmful or questionable ingredients found in many other products. There are no parabens, phthalates, aluminum, sodium bicarbonate, artificial colorants, or GMOs in our clean deodorant.

Let Nutrition Sink In

“Protect” Deodorant is designed to keep you feeling fresh every day in a way that works with your body, not against it. Complete your body care routine with our clean, aluminum-free deodorant!
