Workouts are always better with a partner, and what better partner is there than your significant other? Workouts can be more fun when you’re exercising with someone you enjoy spending time with, and studies show that people work out longer and harder when they have company. Plus, any shared experience will ultimately strengthen your bond and bring you and your significant other closer together. Here are some ideas on how you can stay active:

Work out at home together. You don’t have to be at the gym to get a workout in. Do some high-intensity interval training with your significant other in your living room, following a workout on YouTube or a fitness app. When you’re done, head to the kitchen and make some refreshing and nutritious smoothies to enjoy together. The Protein Shake we recommend is a great option because it is contains leucine to help you build lean muscle and burn fat. And you can drink it before or after your workout!

Hit the gym together. There’s no need for the two of you to do your own thing at the gym. Your significant other can help you stay motivated, be your spotter, and make sure your form is good. Share your workout routines so you are both familiar with the exercises and know how to support each other.

Go for a run. Get in some cardio as a couple! Grab your sneakers and go for a run. If there’s a 5K or half marathon coming up, sign up and train for it together. Find a trail that’s scenic but still challenges the both of you. And when you’re done, enjoy a nice breakfast or brunch as a reward.

Go hiking. Hiking is another great way for couples to get outdoors and spend time together at a more manageable pace. Whether you are walking a familiar path or exploring a new trail, enjoy the beauty of nature and each other’s company. The best thing about hiking is that you can make it as simple or as challenging as you want. Pick a distance and elevation gain that works for both of you. Wear a weighted vest or carry more in your backpack if you want more of a workout. The choice is yours.

Bike to your next date spot. Have a restaurant or coffee shop you want to check out? Ride your bikes there instead of taking the car. You can continue to explore the area afterwards on your bikes. Biking is a great way to turn those regular travel times into workouts, and you can go places with your significant other that your car can’t take you.

Take a dance class. If you’re looking for something a little less traditional, a dance class can be a great way to get your heart rate up. Dance is a fun workout that’s surprisingly challenging, and it combines fitness with a romantic atmosphere. Sign up for salsa, swing, or any style you and your significant other want to try. You will both learn a whole new skill and have fun in the process.

Whether you are building your health or your relationship, working out together can do either. The next time you schedule a date, try one of these activities with your significant other and see what it does for the both of you. And last but not least—enjoy every moment you spend together.
